Twistedlimbs, You said: "you could just rub borax or dry  preservative in the skin and it would still be tanable but it would take a lot more elbow grease to get it done."

So you use borax instead of the egg/water mixture. So the borax "sets" the skin in a preserved state?
Yet, you still have to/want to stretch it out (to make it pliable) right?

Thnaks alot for this Twistedlimbs! Now I can go at that mink in my freezer!
Do you use some kind of preserving oil or ANYTHING once this process is complete? Will it stay supplejust from the eggs?

Any nasty smell from month old eggs? :oLOL or do you wash everthing out before you break thge pelt on the post?

Tare-  you can use just borax, but you will need to work it\ stretch it  just bout non stop for probably 15 hours to get it supple.  better off using the eggs, its not a bad process. it doesnt smell bad like you think it would.  its a lot easier.

easternarcher-  just the eggs is sufficaint to preserve it and keep it supple, dont add anything else.   and nope youdont wash the eggs out.  the eggs are what soften the hide from the oils in the them.  it doesnt smell bad,  its a little inetersting for a day or 2 but certainly not bad and the smell goes away quickly and you would never know a month later   - Ryan
