I swung the skiff north out of the Gulf and up a tidal river.
I was looking for Speckled Trout. There was just a pile of
rain and a cold snap. So I brought the camera just in
case the fish were elsewhere. As soon as I entered the
mouth of the river, I was greeted by an armada of pelicans.
And a few rare white ones. They are big!
My objective was to fish above and below the narrows.
I passed some real sweet homesteads. A small shrimp boat
passed me on my way. A few boats were coming down the
Narrows and sloshing there wakes against the river banks.
I was scanning the shore line for anything artifactual, but I saw
a puff ball instead. So I cut the engine and drifted back.
The puff ball was a puppy frightened, wet and incased with
black delta mud. A bit of an ordeal to coax the pooch to were
I could grab her. A sweet peanut bar helped. I got her on board
and dunked her. I used bottled water to flush her eyes which she
was pawing at. Rubbed her down with my spare shirt and headed for home.
More tomorrow. Zuma
