Forgot to mention that last year I used a very old pair of Alaskan style snowshoes that belonged to Richard Zawacki (Dick was a good friend and a hell of a outdoorsman in his day. Dick has passed on and I thought it was a good way to honor his memory). Those shoes were 54 inches long, fast on the straight sections but a bit of trouble turning sharp in the tight stuff! As those shoes are quite old, I think I will "retire" them to less demanding work and not use them to race with. This summer, I added a 60 inch long pair of Ojibiwa style to my collection of snowshoes. I plan to use the Ojibiwas this year (Bear Paws or something smaller would probably be faster but the big Ojibawas sure look COOL!) Kevin thanks for your post and bringing back some good memories today.
Take care Everyone,
Brian
