Hickory Pyramid 74@28"
« on: November 23, 2016, 07:56:07 pm »
Finishing this one up. I went to the woodworking specialty store for some new tools and found a true hickory 1"x6" by 6' board that yielded two beautiful rift sawn staves. This is the first of the two twin sisters that will come from it. I love a good character stave, but I've still got a soft spot for a perfectly uniform pyramid.

Hickory Pyramid
74# at 28"
67ttt
65ntn
1.75" at the fades tapered to 3/8" tips
5" handle that works ever so slightly at full draw
Poly finish
Wrapped artificial sinew knocks
12 strand B55 string (will need to upgrade to FF soon cuz it's stretching pretty bad)

It was a fun and fast build. Probably 10-12 hours from start to finish. Sending thanks to the guys who corrected my early and ill judged design choice and tillering.

This is one of my best shooters to date. It has a flat, powerful cast. It took 1-3/8" string follow immediately after 200 arrows and rests at between 1" and 1-1/4" permanent set.

The bottom limb developed some pretty heavy prop twist while tillering and since these photos were taken I have given it a mild golden-brown heat treatment to try to correct it some. If anything major changes after it rehydrates I'll post an update, but I can't imagine much happening other than a few scrapes to touch it up and a few more pounds of draw weight.

More. The arrows pictured are a mix of split lumber poplar and natural basswood shoots with 5" turkey feather fletching.

Nice bow ;) I love a quick and clean pyramid bow as well.

That right there is what a hickory bow should look like. Well done!   8)
