"Rogue" Sinew Backed Juniper - 40# @ 25" (Pic Heavy)
« on: September 18, 2016, 08:22:42 pm »
This was the second sinew backed juniper I was working on. The top limb had a bit of undulation which made the tiller tricky. Came out pretty good though and shoots well. Ended up doing a sinew wrap on the big knot on the top limb. It had a hairline crack in it. After quite a bit of shooting, it didn't seem to be an issue. Figured a little insurance couldn't hurt though. Thanks for looking. :)

Dang! That is amazing! You definitely have attention to detail. I really love the ebony overlays. Where would a guy buy ebony? I love the contrast of the wood, skin and ebony.

I'm not sure where you're located, but there are woodworking stores semi close to me called Woodcraft. They sell all kinds of the finer woodworking tools. I buy 1x1x12" blocks of different hardwoods. $5-10 a piece. You get about 6 sets of overlays out of each piece. Very much in love with ebony. Some is black as night, other are dark brown. Even have some that is cream and chocolate striped. :)

Nice work James. That is a scary knot, but sinew and juniper should be able to handle it.  Beautiful finish work as always.

Thanks, Carson. I ended up wrapping it with sinew, then serving thread and soaking with super glue. Just for insurance.
