Mesquite shafts and glue

I came across this in an ethnobotany database(http://herb.umd.umich.edu/) in reference to archery uses for mesquite:

"Resin used for fletching arrows. (Apache, Mescalero)"
"Limbs used to make shafts for hunting arrows. (Isleta)"
"Pitch used to attach arrow points to shafts. (Apache)"
"Wood used to make bows. (Navajo)"
"Fiber made into cord used for bows.(Seri)"
"Gum used as an adhesive for arrows.(Cahuilla)"
"Gum used to secure foreshafts to arrows and baskets to mortars.(Cahuilla)"
"Smaller limbs used for bowmaking.(Cahuilla)"
"Fire hardened branches used as the foreshaft inserted into the mainshaft of an arrow.(Cahuilla)"

The upland portion of my property is dominated by mesquite, so this fascinates me.  Has anybody here put mesquite to any of these uses?  I'm especially interested in the glue part.

Check with Jackcrafty(Patrick). He is quite familiar with Southern Plains NA and mesquite also.

Aren't gum, resin and pitch the same thing or are there some processing differences.

I'd like to know that myself.  I may just run a few tests.  If so, I'll post my results.
