Tell me what you think.
« on: February 16, 2016, 08:47:49 pm »
Sorry to wear you all out on this, but this is my first bow and I really want it to be a shooter. I want to thank Jawge for recommending his site in my previous post. All kinds of good stuff there.
I think I am ready for a short string and wanted to see what yall thought. Im drawing it to around 10 inches and Im weighing in at about 36 pounds. I was wanting in the 50s and I don't think Im going to get there. Also I would like to bend a little reflex in the tips is now the time to do that before final tillering?

Staying on the long string for to long will cause your bow to come in under weight.  I like to get a bow to floor tiller and then flip the tips before I start to string tiller it.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

Thanks Osage Outlaw. Time to string her up then. That is one of the 3 staves I got from you by the way.

Is the bottom limb starting to hinge right out of the fade?

Try holding a straight edge on your picture from the tip to the fade on one limb and then on the other and you will see that the left limb isnt bending the same as the right.

Ok I whittled on her some more. I could definitely see why it had a hinge. Here is what I came up with.

The left limb is still looking stiff out of the fade area.

Looks good just remember no hurry. Hing is not that bad,can be corrected.

When I get to short string I go slow a lot of times I'll work on it couple inch's. Stop until tomorrow lots of times I'll bring it in the House look at it a few times that night.you'll see a lot of little flaws. You didn't see when you started. Sometimes I'll take a few days to a week.

No one pushing you but you. Go slow.

Tillering one of the most important things you need to learn. This is where 98% of bows become fire wood.
