"Sidewinder" Osage Self Bow - 45# @ 28"
« on: February 07, 2016, 03:16:03 pm »
This was, by far, the trickiest piece of Osage I've yet to tackle. Between the snakiness and the original left to right undulations that I had to heat correct, this bow was definitely a lesson in humility. It took about 7 goes with the heat gun to tame it into a suitable shape, but I think it worked out well.

This was my first attempt at a Reflex/Deflex design and I'm extremely happy with the final result and how she shoots. I named it "Sidewinder" because, every time I would show my old man progress pictures, he would excitedly exclaim "That's a sidewinder!" Lol. The tiller isn't perfect but she draws and shoots very smooth. I'll take it.  8) Hope everyone enjoys.

Very Nice!! You got it goin on that piece. Looks excellent.
I found many years ago that it is much easier and more rewarding working with those that don't know anything than those that know it all.

Nice job.  That is a great looking piece of Osage.  The tiller great too.  I bet that was tough to accomplish.

Wow! I wouldn't imagine making a bow, and not the least a RD design, out of such a crooked piece of wood. Never worked osage, but this is some nasty stuff. Excellent job
