Takedown, best wood to use?
« on: January 24, 2016, 04:09:40 pm »
Hi all I am new to bow making and have made a few yew bows. I am looking for a new project and was thinking of a takedown. I work in forestry and it would be nice to carry in the bush.  Just wondering on beat types of wood to use and styles? Any information or direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Shane

What kind of takedown do you want? 2 piece or 3 piece?

I think you can basicly make a takedown from any kind of wood, depending on the desigh.

Any wood that will make a bow will make a t/d bow, gosh if I had yee thats what I would use
failure is an option, everyone fails, it's how you handle it that matters.

For carrying in the bush, it's hard to beat Osage or locust.

Here's a great build a long for converting a 1 piece longbow to a 2 piece takdown. So you basicly finish the bow and after that cut it at the handle and make a takedown sleeve out of fiberglass cloth.

You can take every bowwod you like and turn it in a t/d.
It's more the question of hard use in the bush. And like already said, osage is hard to beat ...
