The red for the good red road. Black stripes coup counted . The circle and colors day and night. Yellow dots hail stones, male force. Heads for enemy kills and pipes for counsels.

Lakota   They would do the top have red. Green or yellow bottom. I chose to do yellow dots. I am
going to do more black on the sleeves. Yellow at the bottom.
When I get this one done going to do a Cheyenne.
I wish my great grandmothers people wore them I would do that. As far as I know the Sauk/Fox did not.

Yowzaaaa.!!!!!!Your getting quite a gallery of beautiful brain tan clothing there.Looks nice.Very nice beadwork and pigments too.Found a quill worker yet?I know they don't come cheap unless it's family.I did about an inch and a half once.Using 2 needles and said I'll just bead.Don't bead that much any more either.

Spotted dog, you`ve used pigment and hideglue. You should have brushed in the pigments only, because hideglue hardens the leather.

Rebbecca Parker does some amazing quill work. James on this site is her husband, and she is a lot prettier and talented.

It will stiffen the hide for sure but the nice thing about braintanned is its ability to be softened again once becoming wet which non braintanned assuredly doesn't. I've done two shirts with braintanned using the same paint cookies which is pigment mixed with hide glue that comes about the size of a quarter and about 1/8" thick. One shirt the hides were pretty thin and it's completely painted and that is just as soft as before I painted it. The other shirt also fully painted was made of thicker hides but I didn't find it to get much stiffer after the paint. Just had to work it after the paint dried and it's good to go.

Update on my big shirt. I removed the beadwork. It was loomed and sewn down. Not right to do that when recreating.
I reworked the paint and over dyed the complete shirt in walnut dye, and when dry tumbled in cool dryer to soften.
Wow looks old now. Gotta do some more work. I will post pic in the morning.

Yes loom beading is nice in its' place but lazy stitch always is a bit firmer. Thanks for sharing this.I did my clothes work back in the 80's and 90's and did'nt take any pics along the way of construction.
