Frozen deer hide
« on: December 16, 2015, 01:01:04 pm »
How long will a deer hide stay good in the freezer?  My first selfbow deer has been in the freezer for 2 years now.  I'm wondering if its any good.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

was it scraped before frozen ? The meat and fat removed. If so more than likely ok.

As long as it hasn't gone through multiple freeze/thaw cycles (like from lost power) it should be fine.

Your deer will be fine Clint. With or without being fleshed as long as you did'nt have a 2 day power failure.Did you fold it flesh side to flesh side? That's best.

It has stayed frozen.  I don't remember how I folded it up.  It wasn't scraped clean.  I skinned the buck out and threw the hide in a garbage bag in the freezer.  Thanks for the help.

I have a nice dark buck hide from that same year. I rolled it up evenly with the hair out, but didn't scrape it or clean it all. I don't want it, wish I had somebody close by who wanted it. I cant junk it without guilt.

Man, I almost had the wife talked into it last year, then plans changed. I might just make that argument a little stouter this year and collect that buck hide. Memorial Day right?!?
