Holey Ossie

Holey Ossie is my second Osage bow. The stave was one of Osage Outlaw's that a friend purchased and gifted to me from the TN Classic this past spring. A nice narrow, straight stave with several holes, so hence the name. Fortunately, the holes were all near the center of the stave so it worked out well. I haven't recurved a bow as much as this one before, so she was another learning curve for sure. She is 67" ntn, 1 5/8" wide at the fades and draws 51# at my 29 1/2" DL.
The stave had a sizable hole in the handle so I decided to cut off part of it, fill with epoxy and build up the handle with a strip of walnut and a strip of Osage. I was concerned about the strength right in the middle of the handle and didn't want to take any chances. The tips and arrow pass are also walnut. Since the handle was laminated, I didn't want to wrap this one with leather, so I carved the arrow pass and glued it into place. The wood in the handle area is pretty nice and I wanted to be able to see it.
Thanks for taking time to look. I've enjoyed shooting this one so far.

Beautiful bow well done! Love the way the grain swirls around those holes on the belly.

Nice bow, Drew. You're getting the hang of this bow building stuff.
She does look a bit stiff just out of the fades but that won't hurt anything.

That turned out great. Nice work on it! I always enjoy seeing what kind of bows are made from a stave that I cut.

the recurves turned out nice, and the time taken with the finish make for one pretty bow.

Great looking bow. I have to mention those islands of growth rings left on the back around the knots. I think it looks good, but I would constantly be looking at them expecting them to start to peel away.
