I'm not old enough to remember but my Dad served shortly after the invasion as a Marine in the Islands. He wouldn't talk to us about it until I was about 25, when he was 50. Guadacanal and Iwo Jima changed his life forever. I have the utmost respect for all that have served.  If you are still around after serving in WWII I'd hope to hear from you. Salute!!!!

My dad plied the South China Sea
shortly after that heinous event.
He wanted me to take him back there.
We had the tickets but he past just before
we were to go. Broke my heart

My father was tail-gunner in a Mitchell B-25, flew in the China-Burma-India theater.....61 missions. Did not have much to say, didn't get to see any memorials, they didn't even save his job so he made the Service his career. He only told me 2 stories, one was when he was asked to stay an extra 2 weeks to receive his air-ace medal (6 kills) he told 'em what they could do with that.....and he told of shooting upwards at a Japanese convoy on a bridge because they were bombing below the bridge, and how the "bounce" bombs were almost as high as the plane. Luckily I have several photos of his plane, crew, and around Clark field.

I believe he knew how proud I was....

Thanks bubby for posting this, it was a great generation for sure that all gave a lot for us.  Many thanks to them. My step father was in WW2 in the navy and very proud of that. My son wrote a song for all WW2 vets and Poppy for his 80th birthday, wished I knew how to load it, I think you guys would love it. I remember on special line was [ I salute you for being so brave it's because of you that our flag still waves] It's call the Flag.
