Case of Points
« on: October 25, 2015, 06:01:43 pm »
I have been too busy recently to knap anything out but everyday I get to admire the points I have already made and those made by other knappers.

The picture below is of a case of points none of which I made. This is the first case of points I ever started and they are of other knappers that I have been able to get to know.

The first 2 points I was ever given on the first day that I ever saw someone flintknapping are in this case. The stemmed dacite point far left middle, and the little corner notched point at center bottom are those two. From what I can tell there are 14 different knappers represented and 15 different materials. I've started another case since this one has long been full, the second is pretty empty at the moment but hopefully over time it will be filled and need to be replaced by a third.

Gorgeous display! I need to increase my other knappers case, yours will be in there proudly displayed. Who made the Onondage points? Ken Wallace, Dan Long?

Ken made the onondaga Snyders and Genesse point. The clovis was made by neither Ken or Dan. The only point I have from Dan is in the new case I started its a killer little dovetail out of white Flint Ridge. Ken also made the really colorful Snyders, and the large biface in the upper left. It had been a piece I started and the first time I ever met Ken was when he sat down and gave me some pointers by knapping it down to the size it is now, and told me to finish it but I just cant. Oh and Ken made the large novaculite piece in the middle.

Nice, I thought I recognized their handywork, great knappers and people the same. I have one Ken Wallace point, a Burlington Clovis he fluted on the jig he made me, which went missing :( Still have the point though. For some reason I never got one of Dan's points. I need to rectify that.

The one I got from Dan was through the Point Trade at Letchworth this year.

Florida and Pa  ;) As its signed that one was made during a "10 speed" demo/competition at Letchworth. I think that was the year I turned a white novaculite chunk into a nice red biface.

I would still call them broad spears just the southern variety. Rob are from the tiny side notch tradition
