Great bow! I'm thinking of trying the same style. All I have is a red oak stave that's about 6' and 1 3/8" thick. I was thinking about keeping the handle section 1 3/8" and tapering it down. Not sure what a good length would be for the red oak or if it needs to be backed. Would 65" be good?

Has anyone made a Cherokee style "D" bow out of red oak? Thanks.
