Pit River sinew backed yew replica
« on: July 12, 2015, 11:09:23 pm »
I got this stave from Wizardgoat. It has a few small knots but made a great bow. This is copied from TBB v1. I'm sure it has been replicated many times before. The paint design is pretty simple. I picked up some yellow ocher below Half Moon Bay CA. It makes a great yellow, but if you put heat to it, it turns a strong red. I powdered this fine and mixed it with runny pine sap. I also put a layer over the sinew without color to maybe waterproof it a bit. It went on sticky but dried in a couple days and now just has a wonderful pine odor. I got the bow pretty thin before backing. That let the sinew do it's work with the reflex.
The bow is 50 3/4" long 49" ntn. Returns to 3 3/4" reflex after being unstrung. 54# draw at 25" Great shooter. 3 layers of sinew. Handle wrapped with brain tan deer. Tips deer rawhide. 2 ply sinew string also a copy from the book.

I love that bow. The fact that you created it from all natural materials makes it even more attractive.
Your work on these replicas is outstanding Chuck, nicely done.
I ain't broke but I'm badly bent.
