BC museum of anthropology
« on: June 17, 2015, 05:23:13 pm »
A friend mentioned there was some bows in the local university museum of anthropology, so last night me and the wife went to check them out.
Aside from the INSANE totem poles, beautifully carved paddles and masks, cedar chests, bone and antler jewellery, there was some of the coolest bows I've seen in person.
Mostly stuff from south west BC and Vancouver island, but also lots of Inuit and Tlingit. Apparently theres also some Asiatic composites, New Guinea bows, and lots of other randoms, but we
were running out of time and figured we'd be back sooner or later. Lots of things are in drawers under the open displays, so you could really spend alot of time in there. Here's a few pics

Did they mention the wood types? The victoria museum had a great first nations exhibit but only 2 bows, one made from willow the other was made from"wood" in italics.

Good photos, museums are tough to photo well.  The long r/d wih the fiber backing is cool.
