Shoot 'em - or - Make 'em
« on: March 12, 2015, 09:28:43 pm »
Today was a very nice day. But did I shoot a bow? Nope. Makin' 'em instead. Sometimes I wonder which I enjoy more.
... alone in distant woods or fields, in unpretending sproutlands or pastures tracked by rabbits, even in a bleak and, to most, cheerless day .... .  I suppose that this value, in my case, is equivalent to what others get by churchgoing & prayer.  Hank Thoreau, 1857

For me it's the makin.  Used to be the shooting, and I still love to shoot, but it's the makin anymore.

I still love shooting, not as much fun if shooting alone but I can do it all day in the company of other archers. Bow making though is a great way to spend a day either way, alone or with other bowyers.
I ain't broke but I'm badly bent.

Love um both, probably make more than shooting depending on the time of year :) Really for me just being around bows/arrows/knives/or any primitive skills and like minded people is enough for me anymore. Love that. I like bow building more when I am by myself and shooting with friends or when trying to Kill something, that's not that PC but the truth for me. ;)      Pappy

I BUILD BOWS SO I CAN HUNT.

I love building bows love shooting but suck at it.
But any one can hit at 12 yards.

  BUT I'M A HUNTER FIRST.

Let me just say I was a crack shot when I shot other peoples bows. Not so much anymore since I build my own.

Making is my choice. I like shooting a lot but making is the enjoyment for me. Actually harvesting is prolly my favorite thing. Same for flint knapping. Rock hunting is the best.

Wood hunting/cutting, making bows/arrows, and shooting bows are all pretty equal to me.
Weighing wet bow blanks is my least favorite, it's never ending!

Hunting for me. I like shooting targets pretending i'm hunting but it get's old when I can't eat foam. I usually build bows when I'm by myself and the skeeters aren't biting. And I shoot like crap because I have too many favorite bows and like to shoot them all.
