bow raffle for bow trade shipping overseas
« on: January 21, 2015, 05:02:17 pm »
I was considering building a bow and raffling it off to fund shipping to our overseas guys who want to participate but cant due to shipping. Any ideas on this like price per ticket? Method of payment?  Id ask a moderator to hold the money for the raffle. With a bit of luck enough will be made to cover shipping both ways. Let me know what yall think.

It could be sent to a moderators pay pal.

Thats the thought, or have a PayPal set up just for it. I need to figure out a good price for the tickets that way we can get a good ratio or participants per dollar raised.

Any moderators able to help with collecting the money?

Also id like an idea of participation so if you be interested in participating for say, $10 per ticket let me know before I pull the trigger on this and it turns out to be a dud.

I would suggest that the fund only cover the difference between North American shipping and shipping to wherever.

sleek, I shipped a short, light mass bow to China by USPS and it cost me $30.00, I shipped an overlength stave to Vermont and with insurance it cost me $35.00. I am in Florida.

If you use PayPal, do not mention raffle, drawing, tickets, or anything that indicates it is "gambling".  I got raked over the coals last year by PayPal and they locked up the money we raised to bring Del over to the Classic.  Took me two months to finally straighten things out.

That is really good to know! Now I just need someone important to volunteer a PayPal account for this and a list of folks actually interested at $10 a ticket that way I know this will be a viable thing. Any funds raised over the shipping amount will be used for future bow trades. Id do this every year if this works out with participation.  Remember though, your not buying tickets TO win a bow, your doing this to HELP a fellow member or two out.

What if you raffle off a bow and someone in Europe wins it. Then you have to use all the money raised to ship the prize to the winner. I'm seeing a Catch-22 here. :D :D
