I actually witnessed that while hunting with Papaw as well. After the fact, he suggested that I not try it, and then asked if I had a clean hankerchief to wrap his hand with! Good memories 
Greg I use to live trap squirrel for research and still got all the bite marks from ear tagging and radio collars.
