Do the shafts need much sanding after using the dowel maker.   Hands down the best system I saw was the router setup.  Very tricky to get it just right but the shafts are extremely straight, require no sanding and you can turn out quite a few in a 1/2 hour.

As far as i can tell with the videos, if you use the V block setup they said to use it needs a sanding, others use a hole the size or alittle bigger than your goal size to burnish the shafts, and seems to work well, but the blades need to be sharp and will look like a beaver knawed on it if you dont, when i get a few test shafts thru her ill post some pics

The dowel / arrow maker works great!

It is very touchy, and yes, a pain in the butt to set up.  Once you hit the mark, tho, there ya go.
Very minimal sanding.  Mostly touch up doing other stuff, or sanding a taper.

Make no mistake, I wanted a router setup too, but this is an outstanding alternative.

Keep in mind that you have to set up alignment blocks to keep em straight while you cut.
This unit has paid for itself already.  Great piece, especially if you don't have room fro a router.
