Kid's hickory recurve

After we exploded a maple bow at thanksgiving that was almost finished, I had to work hard to get this one done by Christmas.  It is a hickory board bow, 49 inches knock-to-knock, and draws a whopping 15# @ 16".  We backed it with rawhide and "cottonback" snake skins.  Dyed with leather dye and sealed with tung oil.  The tips are rosewood, I think.

He is pretty hooked I would say.  He is already talking about osage and tillering and the merits of rosewood over purple heat overlays (purple heart is prettier, but too hard to work with).

Thanks for the kind words all.  The only thing I am not happy with, is there is some twist in the top limb when it is braced and drawn that is not there unbraced.  I had another hickory board bow do this to me too, even though the thicknesses seem even, and shouldn't be creating a strong and weak side.  does being quarter-sawn have anything to do with that? Nothing I did on either this bow or the other one with the same problem seemed to have much effect.

My first girl is 7 years old and my second son is 5.... is it too early to make them a bow?
