oceanspray with cherry bark
« on: December 11, 2014, 11:09:40 pm »
Hey Folks,

I finally finished the bow I was building for my brother-in-law.  I asked for a tiller check on it in this thread .http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,49599.msg677292.html#msg677292

Final stats are 57" NTN and 64#@28".

Putting the cherry bark on was a bit of a mess. I placed green painters tape on the belly to try and save some work, but it ended up being a major pain as I had to remove all the little bits stuck under the bark with a sewing needle.   I sanded and burnished the belly, and put a few coats of  semi-gloss polyurethane from a spray can.

Over/under lay's are dogwood, as is the arrow-rest.

In the pics I had it braced with artificial sinew (I'll twist up a real bow string this weekend), but it snapped. I then used a shoelace for the full-draw picture.  I had to run into frame, so my stance is not great.

It took a little set 1/2" or so and the deflex came back (twice). String follow is about 1" but once it is unstrung it slowly creeps back to normal (weird to watch).

I haven't signed or named it yet, (this weekend hopefully).

I couldn't have done it without this site, and the feedback from all you fine forum folk.  I know it doesn't compare to many of the amazing bows on here, but it's a decent start for my 3rd bow, and it shoots nice.

Thanks for looking.

Any suggestions for names would be nice.

That's cool.  Nice tiller.  I'd probably call it, "lost arrow", because that is what would happen to my ammo if I tried to stay on target with that beast.

Good job, I like the bark. Hopefully it'll stay on better than the factory stuff.

Looks good - I'm a big fan of Cherry Bark backings ! My first Bow was a Pin Cherry Bark backed Black Cherry. Cherry Bark on Osage is very sharp looking also. Bob

That's a great looking bow you got there.  Well done.

I agree with pappy, you got the most draw out of that length. Cherry bark looks sweet.
