Show and tell Ocean Spray
« on: October 24, 2014, 07:38:10 pm »
I guess it's about time to show what you guys have taught me. This is Ocean Spray, dried 11 months. 69"NTN, about 45# at 28". Brazilian Cherry nocks (thanks to Bow101). Finished with Pine pitch and lacquer thinner varnish. Leather handle and 10 strands of FF. Took about an inch or so of set. When I took the full draw picture(well, as full as I can) it looked like the bottom limb was hinged a bit so I took one on the tree and it doesn't look too bad to me. Whaddaya think? I'd like to say it shoots well but I don't know enough to say. The arrow leaves the bow and arrives at the target quickly. Give me a few years and I'll be able to judge better than that. Couldn't have done it without you guys, Thanks.

Thanks Don! No, I'm not a hunter, I'll shoot it for a while and then give it to someone and make another. It's the making I like. ;D ;D

Nice work DC! gotta love that ocean spray!

Cool, I like the subtle curve at the tips. Classy

Thanks guys. I keep looking at the full draw and it looks to me like its bending too much mid-limb or not enough in the fades and tip but if you think it's OK that's good enough for me. One tip was naturally curved (the bottom of OS usually is) so I just made the other match, steam I think. I really like OS but it's heavy. I still overbuild so with that and using OS this bow weights 25 oz. Over a pound and a half. I have to work on that.

Looks like all the oceanspray advice is paying off indeed, good job on that handle I like the way it matches the tip wood.
