Tillering suggestions...?
« on: September 14, 2014, 01:51:06 pm »
I took this down a bit more since last week, mostly the lower limbs/tips (to .5"). Is it looking better? Thanks, guys.

Outer 2/3 of each limb doesn't seem to be bending much.

I'd agree

start scraping from 8" out to the tip both limbs

Looks pretty good for me. I would start scraping the side of tips. You can even go for a Mollie if you stop scraping as soon as the tips start to bend.

Thanks. I think I am getting even closer. See any issues? By the way, how do you rotate pictures when you attach them?

It looks better in the lower limb, but hingy in the upper out of the fade. The outer limbs still look a bit stiff. The pic where you are drawing the bow look much better than the ones with the brick background to me, so if you are getting close I would focus more on them as a drawn picture seems to be more true than one sitting on a tillering stick.

Thanks. Any suggestions regarding dealing with "hinges"?

If you are almost there in draw weight, I would try heat treating the hinge.

So heat that spot and bend it a bit in the opposite direction?

It draws just above 50# @ 27", and I am okay taking it down to 45# but, hopefully, no less than that.

just try to even out the top limb, bending toward the outer part,, and see how she looks,, you can heat treat if that does not work,,
