Hickory Sword
« on: August 23, 2014, 01:32:35 pm »
Some of you got to see this at Elm Hall before it was finished. After watching the TV series Game of Thrones I decided I need to make myself a sword! After researching I decided to copy a particular real sword I found online. Went with hickory because of its strength, I knew where to get the lumber for it, and I'm most familiar working with hickory. After finishing the sword I found a beautiful piece of walnut at the Habitat for Humanity and decided it would make a good plaque for the sword. Made the hooks with some purpleheart. Just a fun little project to keep me busy on my break from school. Little different from the bows but it was a blast to make!  :)

I was admiring it in the pics taken at Elm Hall. Beautiful work, Ryan. I hope school is going well for you.

Is that Valerian hickory?

These pics are "ok". But like Pauly said , you have to see and handle it in person. Great job Doc!

Nice, Ryan. I guess if you can make a shootable bow from poplar your skills are unlimited. ;)

I like to shape wood. You made that hickory shine!
Neat idea. Now how about a wooden Schwarzenegger?
