Fiberglass Recurve - any ideas on value?

Hey, I thought I'd post this up here since it's a fiberglass bow. 
I was contacted by this guy asking me if I wanted to buy his bow and arrows and If I had any idea of the value.   I don't really know how much it should be worth, but I'm sure someone on here might.
I think he mentioned it was 1950's bear.  Poundage was around 35-40 I think.   should probably find out.
What do you guys think this bow and 24 arrows would be worth?

Looks like a Tamerlane (sp?) model to Me. They are a BLAST to shoot ! Bob

Yep, it's a Tamerlane. Usually a low poundage, target bow and a real smooth shooter. The market on bows is really low, now so don't get too carried away with an offer.

Bear bows made between 1965 and 1969  had the serial numbers beginning with the last digit of the model year,  example 8xxxxx meant that it was made in 1968.

Beginning in 1970 the serial  numbers began with a K.

The bow in the picture is strung backwards as you probably know but I wouldn't leave it that way.  I always hang a bow or lay it flat and never store it leaning in the corner.

Unfortunately I shoot lefty, so this bow wouldn't be much use to me, other than as s wall hanger.  Thanks for the offer Jeb.   Would 100- 200  be around the right ballpark?

Condition is everything on the older bows. Look for site holes drilled, twisted limbs, cracks and any other cosmetic issues and  then go from there. You also can check on some of the auction sites to see what they are going for and then set your price.


Also that is a long bow so when it comes to shipping you have to pay around a $25.00 oversize fee plus the actual shipping costs so that can be a bit pricey.

What does the serial number read?

I wouldn't offer more then $300 but that's me. I don't buy the target bows or the light weight ones. You can Google Bear Archery and history, there are a couple of good sites, one being on Stickbow.

Oh yea, the Tamerlane was made from 62-72.

The: Tamerlane was made from 62 to 68
       Tamerlane HC 30 was made from 65 to 67
       Tamerlane HC 300 was made from 68 to72

Is there any markings on your bow?  If there are no names or markings then I would have some questions about the bow.

The bow is not strung backwards. Back in the day this is the way we kept the string on an unstrung recurve bow, it took a very light pressure to slip the string into the grooves this way.

If I pick up a bow that has a slight twist in the limb I string it like that and hang it up for a while. It almost always takes the twist out.

I have a bow that has a slight twist in a limb.  Guess I will try that method for straightening out the limb.  Thanks for the tip .

Not sure about any marking or a serial number,
All I have is those two pictures.  I haven't seen it in person.

The serial number and weight should be on the left hand side of the grip and there should be some decals on the belly of the limbs.
