Tricky Osage with Knots and Snakes (more pics & full draw)
« on: February 28, 2014, 05:37:33 pm »
This was a bow I made for a gentleman out in ND who is a big fan of character osage and painted rawhide who is also the owner of the last painted bow I posted:

This time he asked for an animal totem kind of thing like I have done with a the wild boar image that I placed on one of my own bows. Together we decided on an Eagle and this is how I incorporated it into a design. The wood is osage and has two large knots at near symmetrical distances from the handle (We were joking with some compound tournament shooters that, if it made them feel better, we could sight through one knot hole and add a stabilizer in the other :)  ).

Anyway the bow turned out very nicely and shoots strong, here are the stats:

56" (53" n2n)
50#@28"
Osage orange backed with rawhide

Hope you enjoy.

Very cool bow.  8)  That narrow throat is a bit scary.

That is VERY cool. It's like all of the bends and twists are intentionally placed at just the right places, there's a very "balanced" look to it.

Very cool looking piece of Sage.  Nice work.  Ditto on the narrow arrow pass, but you would know it's strength.  Love it.

Pat: Actually, that pass was terrifying :), but it is also 1.25"+ deep, by .75" wide and not moving (thank goodness)
