I was rooting through some old slabs today, and I found a thick chunky piece of Rose Quartz I slabbed many years ago. It is the cloudy massive form with lots of small internal fractures, but using either the stick or an aluminum billet, it seems to work pretty good.
I was read about aluminum billets, and with the fractured quartz, I thought the lighter weight might be less likely to cause old fractures to fall apart. It was driving about 1 inch long by half wide flakes, and then they would cause very slight hinges, caused by the edge angle I was striking, not the tool itself.
Have any of you actually thinned any Rose Quartz down and managed to get a point out of it?
