Apples and 'maters on my doorstep today
« on: September 25, 2013, 08:33:45 pm »
Chop 'em a bit

Not too much!

Ounce and half of this

Six ounces of this

Give 'em the Hansel and Gretel treatment in the oven at 250 for 45 minutes

Squeezo takes care of the skins, seeds, stems, and larger bug parts

95% ends on the right as unsweetened applesauce, 5% on the left as waste.

I'll sweeten to taste later with brown sugar and some fresh ground cinnamon.  Or maybe it will go back in the oven low and slow again to become apple butter.

Repeating process now with tomatoes....plum tomatoes, slicing tomatoes, and cherry tomatoes all in one batch!

No rum, no wine, 'just maters.

I'll check this out again when I can get all the pics loaded.  For some reason I thought when I opened this up it was gonna have root crop w/ apples and bacon.  ??? don't know why.  dp

ps I know a lady who makes aple butter in a crock pot.  not quite a copper ketle, but tasty all the same.

Looks familiar LOL! My kids and I picked these 3 weeks ago, and my wife spent the next week canning 45 quarts of applesauce, and 10 quarts of applebutter(the kids love it with peanut butter instad of jam).

Now ain'cha just hoping I draw your name for the Christmas exchange???

By the way, that big ol' roaster fulla apples cooked down into just 4 pints of apple butter. I used a whole cup of brown sugar, so it is a little tart, too.

You can search "Squeezo" online and find plenty of retailers.  But before you do so, take a baby aspirin and have 911 on speed dial before you look at the price.

It all looks good.

I squeezed a bunch of apple about a week ago and got 5 gallon of cider.  Hope to do it again after a frost if the apples are still hanging on to the tree.  They get sweeter after a frost!!!
