Osage with big knot in handle finished.
« on: July 04, 2013, 07:25:35 pm »
It is 69" long with natural forward tip on upper limb and heat induced on lower to match. Handle and fade area is 11" total so limbs are 29". 50# at 29".  Came from a old fence post in Kansas before they expanded to build homes on the old farm that was fairly old when I was a kid so at least 50 years. Has one grub hole filled with SG and dust on lower riser that went clean through and 2 nail holes in mid limb filled also. I got a little carried away with the sinew wraps  :o Chased ring is beautiful and over 1/8" thick.  I gave it to the local butcher since he's been real helpful with sinew. I forgot to get a shot of the pin nock tips though.  will try to get some later.
Thanks folks, Marco

That stave could have a killer profile being deflexed out of the handle like that. Take your time and do it some real justice.

I would make sure there is no bending in the handle given the size of that knot. Jawge

I would go for a deflex/reflex profile with flipped tips. Blackcaulk has done about 75 or so with that profile. You might even be able to shoot the arrow through the hole when your done or at least install some glow in the dark bubble level sight pins! ;D

OK, thanks folks. Decided to narrow it down some and keep all the length.

Good point George, I will keep a real close eye on it and I decided not to fill that hole with the epoxy after all. Will fill it with SG and dust after it is closer to done and see if there is any bend first.
