"The Ugly Stick" gift
« on: November 09, 2007, 04:27:46 pm »
Well, there was a little vote on archertalk's young archer's forum on the young archer of the year. Long story short, I'm sending a new selfbow to a compounder with an interest in selfbows :). So I made him this one- The Ugly Stick.

It's hickory, 68" long, 65# at 28". It's a bend trhough the handle D bow, but I decided to wrap a block or wood on to give him something to hold onto. I attempted to flip the tips, but the belly had become rounded and pulled one the bottom limb- so I wrapped and glued both limbs to make it look even. It lacks cast at a distance, but is is an excellent up-close hunting weapon- like all of my bows. It is very smooth, I hope he likes it  ;D.

Thanks everyone :). I'm especially happy with how it turned out- it is alot smoother than similiar glass laminated bows, but still shoots like a 65# bow, which I hope is perfect for someone used to compounds :).

I thought that an "ugly stick" was a fishing pole.  ;D It's a great looking bow Kegan.  Justin
