Hey is there anyone in northern Utah that can help teach me about how making. I am just not understanding how to do it from the books

The books wernt doing to well for me either, but there are plenty of nice folks on here that would be more than happy to help you build a bow. good grain, if you go to jawges site he explains grain orientation real good, it's at the top of the how to page

as straight a grain as you can get, look at all 4 sides and look to see if the grain runs off one way or another, as far as boards go it takes a while to read the grain, and try and get hard maple, red oak is o.k.  but hickory an d maple and white oak will be better, Bub
