All I gotta do is put on a leather grip and make a string for my recipient's bow.  Maybe he/she will be at the Classic.  I'm bringing it along to finish.

Time to post some progress.  Finally got this one to tiller, it's a hick-backed-osage elb (not following 5/8 rule though).  First for me.  This may or may not be my trade bow, depending on how it works out.  I glued in some perry reflex.  She's a beast to get strung.  I didn't have a string long enough, so just stuck a rope on at "zero" brace to get a looksee.

I have no idea what the weight is so far.  It feels like 80+ (if i yanked all the way to my cheek, which i couldn't  :o)but i expect she feels deceivingly high.  On the wall before she flipped sideways i got about 35# at 15" with the nylon rope).

At first it looked like the upper had a hingy area about 10" from the tip, but the circles seem to indicate she's fine (I zoomed in and the curve of the circle follows the back almost perfectly):

The inner thirds on top and bottom look a touch stiff to me, which means they are a lot stiffer than they look given the low brace.  Any comments on tiller are welcome!

Since both hick and osage are both Texas woods, and she's gonna get Texas Longhorn overlays, think i'll call her a Texas Longbow ;) ::)

Are you trying to make a heavy weight bow Kevin?

Lots of great lookin bows being posted here. Texas longbow sounds ok Kevin but Oklahoma longbow sounds so much better ;D
Got 5 coats of tung oil on a hackberry with zebrawood tips. This might be "the one."

Heres a crappy pic of the full draw, had to do it by myself from my phone, but Im pretty happy with the tiller.

Chris i had a nice little bowmaking Friday myself, love days off like this.  Unfortunately, had to call it quits on a sour note.  When you ruin a perfectly good stave, then find a way to fix it, then ruin it again :-[ (then break it out of frustration >:D), it's time to call it a day.  It WAS an osage slat i bent into some nice deflex for an HBO r/d bow.  Made a dummy mistake and cut on the wrong side of the line while reducing. >:(

I've got one more osage slat ima try again... but not today.

Good looking bows everyone, gonna be some happy recipients. Putting the last couple coats on mine then just wrap the handle and
bring it to the classic this week. I hope my victim is there too so I can hand it to him in person. Took me four bow attempts to get
one that I think my guy will like but it was sure fun to build one for this group trade. :) :)

Cool bend, Okie!! 8)
