what would you guys do with this
« on: January 27, 2013, 02:33:36 pm »
Any ideas? It's 68 3/4" long and only has about 7/8" of heart wood at handle and less than 1 1/2" wide. Thanks.

Thanks for that idea  ;). Didn't think of that. Was thinking maybe a fishing pole  ;D. Should I leave sap wood on. Maybethat will help.

Do you know for sure how the stave was treated after it was cut? If so you can leave the sapwood on. If you are unsure, DON'T!
One option for a stave that is thin in the center and thicker on the outside ends is to cut it in half and splice it back with the limb tips being the thin ends.  You could also make a bend through the handle bow with it or just add a handle riser and go from there.

What Pat said. You could also leave some sapwood in the handle area for thickness providing it is sound wood.

Make a bend through the handle bow all day long with it.
Happy hunting to all!
