Most any flat piece of metal can be sharpened and used as a scraper.  Some of the saw blade that venisonburger was giving away would be great as would the banding that is used on lumber when it is shipped.  See if your mom has an old kitchen knife that she would let you have.  The really old kind that she don't use any more make the best kind. on chasing rings, do you have to leave the whole ring that u are using for the back intact- i mean to say, if yougo into the ring with your knife some, but do not cross into another, is it stilll considered good?  or do you need to just uncover the ring, with no violations of its integrity for it to work?  juts trying to understand what you guys are saying here

   If you violate the ring a little,just sand it smooth where you did it.Just don't go into another ring.And where there is a knot,stay in the same ring to and around the knot.Do not cut through the knot.I've found to be on the safe side when floor tillering or on the pulley,I'll sand all the cuts and slipped gouges out before I start flexing it alot.I've had some break in a small, ring cut.

   David.......here are a few hachets and a few (2) homemade scrapers. These tools alone have made many huntin' bows, no others just these from start ta finish. You dont need anythin' more than this...............bob

I'll see if my mom has an old knife and look for  some scrap metal to make a  scraper. tomorrow I am going to call our cooper friend to see where he gets his tools  then I'll be set
