redoing sinew
« on: December 24, 2012, 12:02:34 am »
Well I attempted my first sinew backing a little while back. I noticed that it started separating from the bow in a small section.  I wasn't real happy there so I started picking at it and was able to peel the entire layer off in one piece. Now looking back, I likely did not degrease the bow thoroughly after using some oil for heat corrections. My question is if there is anyway to resuse this sinew that popped off, or should I start with fresh sinew? Could I just soak this sinew sheet in water to remove the old hide glue and re-lay it on the bow in bundles like it was originally laid? Any help would be great. Thanks

Wet towel over the sinew till it becomes soft (over night sometimes less)
Removes sinew, clean the sinew in a degreaser (dawn dish soap)
Then re-prep the back of the bow. Remove all the old glue and make clean by pouring boiling water over the back or rubbing/wiping down with acetone.
Then reapply the sinew :)
