It broke while I was fitting the stem... No worries. just re drilled the stem hole and made a shorter pipe!  I think it turned out better anyhow.

really enjoy working with soapstone what little ive done.
does anyone know if heat treating can harden soapstone.
have read conflicting reports but was hoping someone here had practical experience.

josh, did you heat and oil/wax that bowl?
the greenish stuff i have worked with turned black with heat and wax.

thanks Pappy!  I gave it to my friend Erik to try since he is the smoker.

Thanks Tracy!  I kinda like it better now that some of the pipe broke away.. seems to fit with the stem better.

Sadie, I read conflicting reports on heat treating soapstone too.  I might just throw it in the oven on 275 for 20 minutes and while it is still hot rub some beeswax in just for good measure.   :)
