2nd set of eyes please bow friends.
« on: October 02, 2012, 11:52:04 am »
Ayup all,

Split out this little yew sapling a while back and have been beating it into shape for a fair while now. Has lots of bumps and more knots than the bit of fishing line you find at the bottom of your tackle box.
Mass is quite light but its only pulling mid to late 40`s about 18oz maybe less. Heated some light flips into the tips to help with stacking. Its pretty short about 60" snakes here and there and is a mild pyramid with more width reduction in the last third.
Top limb is right, there is a little deflex off the handle top limb which is natural but its throwing me.

I now have tiller blindness and have never met another bowyer so thats where you lot come in ;) Set is less than an inch so far.

Without circle for Pearl drums ;)

With for those of us with no friends.

Cheers folks

Looks pretty darn good to me,maybe just a little mid upper limb but that is being very picky.  :) Nice job.

It looks like the upper limb is stiff from mid limb out. A few scrapes in that area should bring it around.

Looks fine to me. Your top limb is bending a little more because of that deflex out of the fades.

Thanks chaps. Will give it a few scrapes up top. I cant have it bend too much there as there are some monster knots around that section somewhere. Dauntless as you say that deflex may be throwing it too.
Finally found a local source of tru-oil here in the Uk, my lcoal gunsmith (should have been obvious that!) so will give that a go for the first time. Getting sick of polly finishes, sticky brushes, near impossible to repair, the stink of white spirits everywhere not to mention trying to get it off my hands!

Oh the smith also talked me into a bottle of Tru-oil wax finish to go on over the last few coats, anyone else use it?

It's time you put on a short string!

Looks good to me judging by the unbraced photo it is a bit of a mild deflex reflex with that in mind I think the tiller is excellento.  Nice one.

Jousting at windmills, brilliant
I think all above, few scrapes on the fades top mainly, few 2nd to last third upper and get it finished.

If that were me I would have called it perfect. But there are eyes here far more experienced than mine. It's looking good, I look forward to seeing finished pics.
