UK source of bamboo
« on: September 18, 2007, 08:46:31 am »
Bamboo poles can be ordered from UK Bamboo Supplies Ltd,-on-line or phone. The only drawback is they have a 16 quid min. delivery charge,so it pays to buy a reasonable quantity.
If you order it on the phone you can ask them to send stuff with nodes far apart and evenly spaced.I ordered split 2m lengths that measure just under 5" in diameter. They came in at 14% moisture content though,so will need further drying.
Hope this is helpful-and does not violate the Message Rules!

I got some from Bamboom. They can be found Bamboom, Pondwood Farm, Pondwood Lane, White Waltham, Berkshire, SL6 3SS, United Kingdom T: 01189345299 E: info@bamboom.co.uk They have a minimum quantity order of three large poles. It was a few hours drive for me to go and select and collect but as I bought a hwole load and shared it with two other bowyer friends it was worth it.
It is a very good idea to split the bamboo at least in half as soon as you get it or it splits as it dries.
