A Reproduction of Tim Bakers Alligator Gar Bow

Ive always liked this bow...its so fricking cool. And ive always wanted to try and make one. Last weekend while I was out grabbing a few last minutes supplies to refloor my other house I went and checked the red oak stock for fun. And by lucky chance I found a perfect bias ringed board 1"x3" with zero run outs dead straight grain on the face of the board and along the sides. Im more of a board hater than lover,but I couldnt let this board to be destined as a lifeless something or another. I knew even before I got home what I was going to make of it. And that was to attempt a reproduction as close as I possibly could of Tims bow. It only took me a wee lil time to have it shooting over the same weekend(last weekend). And it took me probably 3 times the amount of time hand painting it(much longer decorating it than actually making it).

The stats are the exact same as Tims......(well...almost)

64" ntn.....2.5" wide at the fades.....2" wide where it sweeps into the eiffel tower levers....1/4" wide at the nocks(except i glued tip overlays on instead of tie on nocks)...the poundage is in the upper 50's....after I glued the overlays on it had 1/4" of setback....after 125 arrows it has only a 1/2" of string follow,so it only took 3/4" of total set....and at rest it sits at 1/8" of string follow....thats amazing set results for a red oak board. and it only weighs 17.8 ounces. it does have a slight bend in the handle.

Awesome!  I remember reading about that bow and I attempted one, way too early on, and it turned out to be all splinters and profanity.  You nailed it!
