Osage Selfbow pictures
« on: September 03, 2007, 08:39:26 pm »
I just wanted to show a couple of pictures of my latest bow. This one is an Osage Selfbow, 59"NTN, 53lbs@27" with cow hoof overlays on the tips and a cordage wraped handle.
Thanks for looking.
Mark

Great looking bow.  That is an incredible transition between the wood and the hoof is incredible. Justin

Looks great!! Tiller is right on, cow horn overlays are beautiful, and she shines - I like ;D

Those overlays are awesome. That smooth transition from overlay to limb is one thing I'm wanting to learn.I think it really brings the beauty out in a fine piece of wood. Thanks for shareing.tradrick

Smooooooth!  I like 'em all knotty and twisty too but osage that clean can be almost as hard to find as the snaky stuff. I hope one of my next ten comes out that sharp!
Be thankfull for all you have, because no matter how bad you think it is...it can always be worse.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the nice comments.    I used dry heat on the tips, tried to put just enough reflex in the tips to help keep the string secure.
The hoof is great material to work for overlays, it is pretty easy to get a good transition from the tip to the limb.
A while back I started using the digital camera for checking the last few inches/lbs of tiller, it really shows where the wood needs to come off.
Thanks again,
Mark
