Hickory haul
« on: May 29, 2012, 12:23:17 pm »
I posted this on Life is good but for those that don't go there, here ya go.We cut this, this passed weekend,it was 29 inches across the stump and got 3 75 inch logs and several smaller ones.We estimate it will make about 75 to 80 bow staves,it was about as clean and sraight on the first 2 logs as I have seen. The bark as you can see peels very good this time of year. Got the ends sealed and 2 coats of poly on the back as well as sprayed for bugs, you don't always have to do that with white wood but it is good insurance and not worth taking the chance. :) :)

Looks like you guys are set for hickory for a while. Nice job on the processing too. Never Harvested hickory but the bark poping on em like that sure makes the processing sooo much easier than having to drawknife it. Congrats.   Danny

Ya had BigA ,GregB ,Jon and myself most of the day Saturday,Will,Allen and Jimmy came in on the short end but were well recived,we were worn out by noon Saturday and the extra help was really nice. Sidewinder maybe 2 years depending on how many scouts and such we do.It usually takes 30 to 40 for the Classic. We really need to cut somemore but after Saturday they want me to look for some smaller trees. ;) ;D ;D ;D

That is a lot of hickory! Nice work. Ive never cut a hickory that big myself, I tend to stick to the smaller trees. Do the belly splits split off pretty clean?

Seriously if you boarded that and sold it in the UK you'd have a tidy amount! Prices are going up here and a 6 x 2 x 80 is around £70.00 or about $110....
Anyway GOOD HAUL :)
