I am really hoping to get some knife blades out of the algae stuff. I got some agate that I have to get cooked, some obsidian, and several types of petrified wood.
I figure I have to learn on something so I just get whatever I can that is thick enough.

Bevan on agatized petrified wood cook it, opalized is real soft, try and nock a flake off with pressure if it dont go very far cook it, i cook all mine bu the opalwood, Bub

Why would you cook Obsidian?

Mark - Not cooking the obsidian. Just questioning the petrified stuff. I know I have to cook the agate (Brazilian).

Gun Doc - Most of this is from the newer shop in Mitchell, NE. On the north side of 26 going through town. The shop between Torrington and Lingle is run by a real nice elderly couple. If you are looking for fish fossils, that is the place to go. They have really cut down on the slabs. They are both having health issues. Still is worth a stop. Quite a few knapped points in there.
