american mountain ash

I will be heading to my families farm in Penn in a few months when deer season comes in, My cousin says they have a lot of American Mountain Ash as well as some others, just wondering if mountain ash is one of those sucky ashes?  or will it make a decent bow?

"Mountain ash" is usually a species of Sorbus, not related to true ash (=Fraxinus) at all. Another name for the same species of tree that evokes less confusion is "rowan". Run a search for either "rowan" or  "mountain (ash)" on this forum and others. It's a pretty decent bowwood. Lightweight and easy to work with, but surprisingly bendy. Somewhat like hazel, I guess?

Mountain ash is good bow wood. Not the top but a good one.
