Here is the best photo I could find on short notice.
The Video claimed the shaft was eighteen inches in length.

So the poundage is light or the yardage is great. If the yardage was great they would have not hit center mass fired from a bow or crossbow. No feathers no notch. So my guess is it was fired at 10 yards from a crossbow of very low poundage. maybe a kids crossbow or large pistol type crossbow. What are your theories?

My theory is that cats are cold blooded lizards with fur, they use us but they really don't like us.  I feel the same toward them.  Mostly.

My other theory is that whoever shot this cat should steer well clear of me.

In the video that I posted the cat is amazingly calm, sweet tempered, and seems to really be enjoying the attention from the lovely blond vet.  As would I.   Seems to me that orange tom cats are some of the most personable cats out there.  Some act more like a golden retriever than a cat.  The x-rays were amazing, absolutely fascinating.

I hear ya JW.

I'm thinking a Good Ole Fashioned Donkey (the Biblical Donkey) Whoopin!
That is what the lad or lass that did this needs.

As to your thoughts iowabow, that's pretty much what I was thinking.
Crossbow, low draw weight, close range, possibly a CB Pistol.
Either a mostly Innocent youngster taking the cat as a target of opportunity not realizing the damage the shot would inflict on the animal if the bolt connected.
Or a teen with ill intent, shooting a friendly neighborhood cat to inflict pain and death.

Parents, watch your kids for this behavior.  Virtually all serial child molesters and serial killers began with animal torture.  Kids that do this really don't grow out of it as much as they graduate to preying on children and women.
