It's the angle of the picture, Pat. There is still a lot of wood to take off, yet.

Also the second picture is the bow flipped over. The heartwood is very thin there.

Left S.C. about 3:30 this morning and made it home with some daylite left. I had a great time but the deer didn't cooperate the last weekend of the season. Well, got my Jeep unloaded and decided to start bending the tips.

I'm going to do one at a time and let them cool overnight. When I met Keenan at the Classic last year I got some good advice about Yew. This is the first time I have tried bending it with Dry heat, I was really suprised. It bent like butter melting, I doubt I'll ever try steam again, never enough hands at once. ::)

Here's the first tip, the one with the bad knot that was sawed through. I was cringing when I had the heat on it but it held together so far. Tip number two tomorrow night and then bending them some more if needed along with the limbs. I like curves. ;D

Fingers are crossed, Tracy. ;) I'm going to try and bend the tips short and steep like a Static and then work the limbs so I can still get what I want around that knot.

I'm taking it slow and easy, guys. I want a lot more bend in the tips, I'll just have to feel it out.

Steve, I actually missed a big hog at 15 yards on our hunt in July at the Alexacarrie Plantation. I had crawled on my stomack for about 50 yards and when I shot I guess I shot over it. :-\ But, I did get two more real big ones that weekend with my .300.

Got a chance to work on it some more this weekend. The wife was laid up and I stayed home to give her a hand and help out with the Granddaughter.

I decided to get a little more bend out of the tips. This bow was screaming to be a static. So I bent them a little more with dry heat, scraped some more wood off and then started boiling some cow horn. ;)

I boiled the cow horn strips untill they were soft and rubbery, then threw them in my vice to flatten them. After they cooled I sanded them till they would bend, glued, and clamped them down.

I then sanded them down some more on the belt sander and worked them with a little rasp. I also started to reduce the Mass of the Tips. I'm going to take this bow to about 80% of the weight I'm looking for and then sinew it. Also, the more I work on it I think I'm going to make that nasty  knot disappear.
