Camo arrows
« on: December 25, 2011, 08:44:30 pm »
These are the arrows I made for the Christmas exchange.  I hope the recipient likes them.  They are river cane with self nocks reinforced with sinew.  3 goose feather arrows and 3 turkey feather arrows.  Camo job was done with leather dye.  I was going for a different look, but this is how they came out and I actually like it.  I've been working a lot lately, so this is the first archery related project I've finished in quite a while- felt good!

If you have to pull the trigger, is it really archery?

I am deeply conflicted on these arrows.  On one hand they are amazing pieces of work and I am bummed that I'm not in the running to receive them.  On the other hand I know I will not have to face the inevitable pain of losing them immediately after shooting them!!!

Nice work!

Thanks for the comments.  Dave- I did not put points on them.  Since every state is different with point regulations (rock, barbed, width etc) and I did not know what the recipient would do with them, I left them bare.  They have been mailed and should arrive to the recipient by Wednesday.

I've never understood the camo thing on arrows. I can understand the front end of the arrow being camo or dark so the animal can't see it coming (as in references to Ishi shooting at birds) but if that fully camo'd arrow goes into the brush, you're never going to find it. I only say that because I'm a bad enough shot that half my arrows end up in the brush!  ;D ;D

I think the camo shaft idea really took off with the popularity of bow quivers. IMO anyway.
