There are a few bows in this log!
« on: November 30, 2011, 07:00:25 pm »

We have a few windy days here a while back and look what I found!
It is 82 inches long and about 12 inch diameter.
The only problem was it was at the bottom of a 100yd 45 degree slope...my rock climbing gear came in handy for setting up a pulley system but man it was hard work getting it up onto flat ground! I got it split and was pleased to see it split completely straight. Next problem was the half mile hike with two 140lb half logs on my shoulders...but it will be worth it in the long run. ;)

Yew?
You didn't really carry that on your tod did you in one shift :o ?
I recently made a little two wheeled dolly which is great for hauling logs, strap it near one end and tie a short length of rope on t'other end as a handle... it looks a bit like I'm taking a dog for a walk!

Thats the stuff Del. Yep all by myself...pretty tired now though! I got a couple of funny looks from dog walkers when I was hauling on the rope and more when I was carring it back ::)

Jeez you must be pretty fit, I s'pose I must qualify as a feeble old git now, I had to get the missus to help me carry an 8' x 5" diameter Yew log :-[.
Bet your shoulders will ache tomorrow!
Nice haul, that'll be 2013 sorted!

Nice find mike...u don't need to post a picture of yew and your haul cus I can see your big ole grin from ear to ear all the way from across the big pond. I've hauled osage out almost a mile on my shoulders all by myself, and a black locust before on different occasions so I feel your happy pain >:D...it hurts and its hard but oh man it feels so good. ;)

That just proves how lazy I really am. My wife is right.....

Beautiful stuff there Mike.

As for the haul what I personally like to do is put
a log on each shoulder as you did but then I RUN
back to the truck or house whichever is further  ::)

Especially useful trick if you don't really know who owns
the wood ;)
