Wind checked D/R Osage
« on: November 18, 2011, 06:02:19 pm »
Here's a little bow I just finished. It is made from a deflexed stave from the same log as the last one I posted with some wind checks, but this one sports 17" worth of checks on the bottom limb.I filled it with superglue, then put a little more radical flip in the tips since it has had more time to cure. The bow is 65 1/8" tip to tip,and 63 5/8" nock to nock. It is 1 3/16" at the fades, then tapers evenly to 3/8" tips. Glue-on osage rest, and cane handle. 48#@26"and is smooth, silent, and fast.  God Bless

Thats a killer tiller Pete. Next time somebody asks how to tiller an r/d bow Im bringing this pic up for an example, and tell them just like this!

Thanks a bunch fella's.I might have called this one a R/D/R,as it has reflex in the handle. This was one of those staves that when I split it out of the log,I could see the bow clearly. Thanks . God Bless

I just finished burning a pile of crappy wood from my shop, little did I know I was destroying Pete's idea of good wood!

Pete?  Are you ever going to take a good piece of osage and fool around with it?  On second thought, please don't.  I suffer enough envy over the bows you make from poor quality firewood.  If you ever post something from a good stave I'd probably have to go commit suicide by jumping out a basement window.   :embarassed:

Thanks y'all,It is surely appreciated.  JW,this was actually one of the straightest staves (osage),that I have had in a while. I sure was'nt going to let a little windcheck from preventing a functional bow from coming about. ;) God Bless
